Our Services

We use an individually customized therapy approach for each client.

Individual Therapy

Individual psychotherapy is a way for you to learn about yourself and your behavioral, communication, and thought patterns. Most of our clients come to therapy wanting some kind of change in how they are feeling, living, or being. We use an individually customized therapy approach for each client to help them identify their wants, tap into their strengths, and make strides towards living their best lives. Each of our therapists has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and extensive training in multiple other types of therapy, which will be applied based on your preferences, needs, and goals. Therapy is not just for “people who have something wrong with them.” Therapy works for very well-adjusted and high-functioning people by creating space for them to see themselves clearly and objectively. There is no reason to stay overwhelmed. Together, we can work on getting you feeling better and being the person you want to be. Let’s start the process!

Anxiety in High Achievers

What others might not know, and what you would never share is that beneath the surface of a seemingly “together” exterior, you’re fighting a constant churn of anxiety. We are here to tell you, that you don’t need to be “secretly anxious” to achieve and succeed. Our work will help you learn new ways of thinking and communicating with others to set boundaries, communicate your needs, and set realistic expectations for yourself and others. You will learn new skills to manage your anxiety, improve your sleep and self-confidence. With our help, you will learn how to direct your energy and attention to areas of your life where you have control and learn to accept what you cannot. If you, too, are done with the constant mind chatter, racing thoughts, and deprecating self-talk, do yourself a solid and schedule an initial consultation to talk about how we can make that happen.

Life Transitions

At times, it may feel like you are on a rollercoaster, holding on for dear life. The rollercoaster of life is full of many twists and turns - there will be instances where you don't know which option to choose or which way to go. Ultimately, each trip will come to an end, and you will be able to board a new ride. The many transitions in your life can start to feel overwhelming. Life transitions are instances that truly test people's strength and perseverance. Our therapists want to support you through every difficult change in life, like losing a loved one, breaking up a relationship, changing career paths, or any other major event. Whatever change you are going through in life, you don't have to face it alone! We want to give you the tools to cope and thrive through these situations. These tools will enable you to navigate your next rollercoaster ride with ease.

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (and no, it isn’t hypnosis). This form of therapy was discovered by accident and stimulates both sides of the brain by using lights, sounds, and tapping techniques, and ultimately changes the person’s level of distress for negative memories. A client is prompted to think about their traumatic memory while watching a dot move back and forth across a computer screen while also receiving alternating beeps in their ears through headphones. This is done for 60-90 minutes. Clients will be asked to rate how distressing the memory is at the beginning of the session and re-rate it at the end of the session. EMDR can help you end the cycle of ruminating thoughts, quiet the part of your brain that is always on the lookout for danger, help you put the past in the past and feel comfortable in the present, and move forward with your life.

Queer/LGBTQIA Struggles

TMH Counseling is a firm supporter of the LGBTQIA+ Community. Our therapists foster a safe accepting place for our clients to receive the support they need through any life obstacle or struggle. When you are LGBTQIA+, challenges can plague you from all over. Unfortunately, people in society can spread hate towards you, refuse to accept who you are, or deny your identity. It is already hard enough to explore who ourselves as individuals without these outside stressors affecting this process. In the midst of it all our TMH counselors want to be there for you. We provide LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy. Clients are encouraged to open up about anything they want to discuss like, understanding their identity, accepting themselves, navigating social interactions, or exploring their love lives. At TMH Counseling you will receive the care you deserve!

Eating Disorders

When you have an eating disorder, it feels like this disorder is in control of your life - not you. This disorder becomes the boss of your daily activities, dictating what you will do, what you can eat, how much you will eat, etc. Eating disorders make you view your body negatively and stop you from giving it the vital care it needs. Unfortunately, the effects of these actions can have life-threatening consequences. YOU deserve to be in control of your life, not your eating disorder! We want to help you live a healthier and happier life: a life that will allow you to accept your body and treat it with the honor it deserves. Through therapy, we will assist you in building a better relationship with your body and increasing your self-esteem. Eating disorders are challenging and scary; if you have any disordered eating patterns know that you are resilient! We are here to provide you with total understanding, support, and hope for the future!

Recovering Perfectionist

In the beginning, perfectionism felt like your greatest strength. But, eventually, you hit a point of diminishing returns. The longer hours are no longer leading to increased productivity. Trying harder and harder to be the perfect friend, daughter, and partner is no longer leading to improved relationships. The constant comparison to others is leading to feelings of envy and helplessness. Initially, it can be scary thinking about a life without perfectionism – to lower your standards or give yourself a break. Would that be failure?! Embracing mediocrity?! The good news is that you already possess all the skills needed to break the perfectionism cycle and thrive in life. You simply have to learn to use your skills to your advantage rather than against yourself. Imagine striving for excellence without having to beat yourself up to be perfect. Sounds nice, right? Contact us today and we will get you set up with a free consultation phone call.

Therapy for Athletes

TMH Counseling was founded by a former professional athlete and working with current and former athletes is a passion of our clinic. The high instances of mental health disorders amongst athletes are rarely talked about and the “tough it out” culture of sports rarely makes sharing struggles and the hard stuff feel safe. Just like everyone else, athletes are humans too and have the same instances of depression and anxiety as the rest of the population. The leaving of one’s sport and career can also be a complicated experience with a mix of different emotions. We know this stuff isn’t easy to talk about, but we can tell you from first-hand experience that therapy works for athletes. It can work for YOU! There is no reason to suffer alone. Together, we can get you feeling better and where you want to be

There is no reason to stay overwhelmed.
