How We Can Help

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a skills-learning-based form of therapy that can help you change your behavior and patterns of responding to others by changing your underlying thought patterns. In CBT you will learn new ways of thinking, methods for balancing your thoughts, and gain an understanding of how your thoughts impact your feelings and actions.

Trauma and Attachment

Trauma impacts various aspects of our lives and often feels overwhelming, consuming, and difficult to move through. Healing the living legacy of trauma requires identifying and examining the symptoms that create these lasting effects. Our clinicians assist clients by working together to identify ways in which trauma has influenced your attachments and relationships with others, yourself, and the world at large. We offer individualized treatment to help decrease trauma-related symptoms and improve your mood, coping skills, relationships, and overall well-being.

Life Transitions

Life transitions, even positive ones, can feel overwhelming, distressing, and unmanageable at times. We have all experienced inevitable changes in our lives that became harder to deal with than we expected. Our clinicians understand how the uncertainty of change can impact our well-being, interpersonal relationships, and identity. Speaking with a clinician at TMH counseling about these transitions can help you relieve anxiety, increase personal growth, and feel more confident. We strongly believe that we cannot stop the waves of change from happening but can learn to better navigate these tides.

EMDR and Moving Past the Past

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy that to can help your brain see past disturbing material or events in a new and less distressing way. This is achieved through “reprocessing” which involves bilateral stimulation of the brain. EMDR is helpful to a range of clients including those who have experienced a frightening event, loss of friend or family member, ending of an intimate relationship, and the general traumatic experience of being a human being.

Queer/LGBTQIA+ Identities

Gender, sexuality, and identity exploration can bring up different feelings and experiences that are hard to navigate on our own. Our clinicians understand the importance of creating a space that is LGBTQIA+ informed and affirming; we assist our clients in exploring how their gender and sexualities impact their interpersonal relationships, relationships with themselves, and relationships to the community. We trust the expertise our clients have in their lived experiences and provide a space for them to step fully into themselves and be celebrated for exactly who they are.

Grief and Loss

Has a significant loss or change left you feeling alone, lost, hopeless, confused, or uncertain about the future? We help adults with the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive responses as a result of grief and loss. Grief is an emotional response to any type of loss. This can include the loss of a person, a job, a relationship, one's health, a sense of safety or security, a dream, or the loss of a part of yourself. Our counselors believe that everyone experiences and expresses grief in personally unique ways that can be shaped by family background, culture, life experiences, personal values, and intrinsic beliefs.

Anxiety in High-Achieving Adults

Many of our clients are high-achieving adults who are very driven and have lofty expectations for themselves, but find they are feeling overwhelmed with the weight of their expectations, drive for achievement, fears of failure, people-pleasing behaviors and struggle with self-confidence. Many of our clients frequently described themselves as over-thinkers, perfectionists, and feeling paralyzed when it comes to decision-making and beginning projects.

Eating Disorders

Are you struggling with your relationship with food or your body? Do you notice that the number on the scale, calories, and foods you won’t allow yourself to have takes up the majority of your brain space? Our clinicians work with those suffering from disruptive eating patterns and negative body image. We understand that disordered eating behaviors are not just about the food- these patterns develop as an external solution to inner turmoil. We work from a HAES ® lens and take a non-diet approach to therapy. You will learn tools to manage guilt and shame, improve your relationship with food, and understand the function of these emotions.

Therapy for Athletes

Society rarely speaks of the struggles and challenges athletes face such as the high instances of stress, disordered eating, burnout, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation. Our society also rarely speaks about the experience of athletes after retiring from their sports, an experience many describe as lonely, isolating, and traumatic. Our practice was founded by a former professional athlete and specializes in working with clients struggling with the unique experiences associated with current and former athletic participation.
